Divide et Impera: Partitioning Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Systems to Improve Resource Location
نویسندگان
چکیده
Unstructured P2P systems exhibit a great deal of robustness and self-healing at the cost of reduced scalability. Resource location is performed using a broadcastlike process called flooding. The work presented in this paper comprises an effort to reduce the overwhelming volume of traffic generated by flooding, thus increasing the scalability of unstructured P2P systems. Using a simple hashbased content categorization method the Ultrapeer overlay network is partitioned into a relatively small number of distinct subnetworks. By employing a novel index splitting technique each leaf peer is effectively connected to each different subnetwork. The search space of each individual flooding is restricted to a single partition, and is thus considerably limited. This reduces significantly the volume of traffic produced by flooding without affecting at all the accuracy of the search method. Experimental results demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method.

Heterogeneous Search in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Networks
Resource search or discovery is a fundamental issue in peer-to-peer (P2P) and grid studies.1 Search objects, or resources, can be cycles, storage spaces, files, services, addresses, and so on. In general, systems are employing three categories of P2P-network architectures to improve search performance: centralized (such as Napster, http://www.napster.com/), decentralized but structured (such as...
متن کاملPeer-to-Peer Approaches to Grid Resource Discovery
Peer-to-peer organization of Grid resource discovery services would have several desirable features, including high scalability, high reliability, self-organization and self-healing. In this paper, we describe challenges in applying P2P techniques to Grid services. These include the choice of overlay configuration and varying security requirements for Grid and P2P environments. We present the d...
متن کاملA P2P Network with inherent Support for Adaptation
There has been a significant body of research conducted into various structured and unstructured overlay network protocols. Both paradigms have advantages for specific application domains and researchers are beginning to examine the benefits of using hybridized systems. We hypothesize that resource awareness and adaptation are essential to the efficient exploitation of the resources available o...
متن کاملLINP: Supporting Similarity Search in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Networks
An important problem that confronts peer-to-peer (P2P) systems is efficient support for content-based search. In this paper, we look at how similarity query in high-dimensional spaces can be supported in unstructured P2P systems. We design an efficient index mechanism, named Linking Identical Neighborly Partitions (LINP), which takes advantage of both space partitioning and routing indices tech...
متن کاملTAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network
Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...
